New Bloom Maternity offers a variety of products for modern moms, for pregnancy and beyond. Building on the vision of their Australian sister company, New Bloom sought to enter the market with a brand identity moms could immediately connect to—one that understands the plight of modern mothers and is ready to support their unique needs.
In the discovery phase of this project, we uncovered the tone and persona of the brand — cozy, feminine, modern, soft, warm, authentic — then worked thru several phases to bring this to life.
The soft, comfortable, feminine color palette helps this new brand speak without words. The custom type is strong with subtle nods to the feminine. The use of confident phrasing in packaging and other media creates an honest and welcoming tone.
Along with creating a solid branding system for New Bloom to pull from as they develop their new identity in the marketplace, we also developed new product packaging and shipping materials.
We’re excited to share more of these elements with you as they roll out. For now, here’s a sneak peek at the New Bloom brand and style.
I worked with the fine folks at Overflow Storytelling Lab to develop this new brand for Dr. Michelle Robin of Your Wellness Connection and the Small Changes Big Shifts podcast. The Quadrants of Wellbeing provide a framework for healthy, happy, whole living. I felt honored to help bring it to life with custom hand lettering and a personal, playful, but clean brand. In addition to initial branding and style, I also designed and developed the program website on the Wordpress platform.

Weston Wine Company crafts delicious wine from Missouri grapes and is famous for their playful cupcake pairings and wildly fun group events. Recently under new ownership, WWC was ready for a new brand identity that would help build strong connections with their target customers.
In the discovery phase of this project, we uncovered the unique and snarky bits of WWC’s tone and persona then worked thru several phases to bring this to life.
The bold, feminine, playful color palette helps this new brand speak without words. The use of phrases that are edgy yet classy create an honest and welcoming tone. The mix of simple, blocky sans type and a very fluid script show that you can be grounded and let your hair down at the same time.
Along with creating a solid branding system for WWC to pull from as they develop their new identity in the marketplace, we also worked to develop new packaging, wine labels and environmental graphics.
We’re excited to share more of these elements with you as they roll out. For now, here’s a sneak peek at the new Weston Wine Company brand and style.

As Hallmark executive Wayne Strickland prepped to launch into his new public speaking role, we worked together to develop a complete branding system, shiny new website and cover artwork for his debut book. Here are some highlights from the project.
Project completed in collaboration with Overflow Storytelling Lab.
The ladies at Meadowbelle currently operate both Meadowbelle Market and Meadowbelle Weddings. When they came to me, their branding was a mix of elements they'd collected over the years. They pulled inspiration from vintage drawings and lettered brands, but were in need of a strategic brand refresh that could provide consistency and versatility, while embracing their unique style.
I created a hand lettered main "Meadowbelle" wordmark that acts as the base for the brand. Then, each business line has a unique logo that can be used interchangeably with the line art and icons.
The color palette is muted, calm, and romantic. And the custom pattern offers a playful, but classy vibe.
Alyssa Hollingsworth is a newly published middle grade fiction author. As she prepped for the launch of her debut book, The Eleventh Trade, we worked together to develop her new brand. This branding system uses custom brush lettering, classic slab serif type, paint swashes and hand drawn icons to present a casual yet classy vibe.
I also custom lettered two quotes from the book for use in promotions and social media.
Connor Flanagan is a Minneapolis-based musician who came to me as he prepared to launch a new album. The new record included an entirely new sound from his previous albums and he wanted new branding to match.
From the beginning, I felt like the brand needed a mix of something loose and a little more casual with something more geometric and modern. Ultimately, this manifested itself in the combination of a handmade brush type and a geometric block type.
The color palette is masculine with a pop of "old school" color and a custom handmade brush pattern.
Along with the new branding, I also designed the album cover artwork, custom tee artwork, and various website banners for use throughout the launch.
This was a very fun project. It was an honor to help translate Connor's vision into his new branding.

L’Alto Catholic Institute in an NPO working directly with churches across the country. Having worked thru an initial growing period, L’Alto came to me ready to rebrand and position themselves for intentional future growth and expansion.
First, through our initial discovery, we developed the overall tone and story of the new brand. Then we created a flexible branding system that could be used across all types of media by many different members of the team.
Next we focused in on a complete website update—both style and structure. We included room for growth into new regions and new programs.
We continue to work together on collateral and new projects as they expand their regional offerings.
As Steps of Faith Foundation prepared to host their annual fundraiser event in Kansas City, I worked with the Executive Director to develop this fun event poster and complementary digital graphics.
Such a fun project! 6 Million Dollar Band is a stellar 80s cover band based in Colorado who was in need of a modern update to their site and some bolstered site SEO.
We used a focused message, video and strong imagery to create a site that gives the viewer a peak into just how fun it is to have 6MDB play your event. The site is built on the Squarespace platform and fully integrates video, their tour schedule, and a number of social media widgets.

Lettering and illustration lends itself well not only to branding and advertising, but also to custom product, packaging and decor. What I love most about this type of work is that it offers people a way to express themselves, connect to others and find comfort in some of life’s harder experiences. Here are some of my favorite recent custom pieces.
WILDFLOWERS
I initially created this piece as a custom commission in 2016 for a baby’s nursery. It quickly became my most popular design and has found many places throughout the world to call home. With the passing of Tom Petty in 2016, I was able to witness firsthand how a piece of artwork can bring comfort. This piece was always a celebration of his work and a wish for the viewer—I never imagined we would lose him so soon—and I’m grateful that my artwork was able to comfort so many while honoring the talent and gifts he left behind.
WHAT SHIPS ARE FOR
This piece was originally a custom commission. It’s since become admired by those coping with distance from a loved one, mothers letting their babies leave the nest, and sailors proud of their accomplishments.
KANSAS CITY SKYLINE
If you’re from Kansas City, you know how much we all love it! This hand drawn illustration combines some of KC’s notable landmarks and makes for a great piece of local home decor.
BADASSERY
Long before I read Jen Sincero’s You Are a Badass (highly recommend!! Not a sponsored promo either…), I knew there was something to celebrate about the trait of “badassery” and I was inspired to create a big, loud homage to those who wake up every day to kick butt. This has become a popular piece of office decor…and rightly so.
BRUSH SCRIPT QUOTES
This loose romantic style makes for great minimalist decor. These are three of my favorites, each with a special message.
CORE VALUES ARTWORK
I created these custom lettered core value pieces for Engaged Companies, which we then printed on wood and hung in their Parkville office. Such an engaging way to communicate your values to your clients and employees.
CRAZY ONES
Inspired by the Steve Jobs quote, this piece combines lettering and illustration to celebrate those crazy enough to change the world.
KINDNESS IS BEAUTIFUL
Simple, but true. Also, watercolor floral wreaths are fun to make.
ROYALS INSPIRED TEES
I created these tees during the World Series 2015 as we watched the boys in blue take off. It was an exciting time in Kansas City and the community pride and support of the team has only continued to grow. These tees are my small contribution to the amazing energy seen in the Kansas City creative community since the World Series win.
Some of these prints are available in my retail shop, Haute Wanda.
As Mid-Continent Public Library prepped to hold their annual Legacy Luncheon, they reached out to me to help with rebranding the event and developing event collateral and styling direction.
We focused first on developing a custom type logo which echoed past branding but brought a fresh, personal feel to the event. With new brand in place, I developed invitations, digital graphics and event materials which utilized a very bold yet playful design. With styling guidance, a strong palette and unique graphic details, the team at MCPL finished out a variety of event signage and decor.
Clyph is a Kansas City based software development company that works with large businesses, agencies and non-profits across the country. When the formally launched in 2016, I worked with them on front-end design of their new site, business cards, sales materials and business templates.
Front-end design of the site included not only the overall look, feel and graphics, but also a custom background video and strategic messaging. The brand was already established and their internal team completed back-end development of the site on the Wordpress platform.
CxC Designs is a Kansas City based product design company that combines wood, metal, novelty, and technology to create unique products for the home. As a startup, CxC was looking for a brand identity that was modern, sleek, and memorable. The brand required versatility, as it would be used in a variety of applications, including a branding iron. The end result is a blend of modern and rustic - both simple and approachable.
After becoming a lettering artist, I began to wonder how type could translate to other media including hand embroidery. Since then, I’ve had a great time exploring letters in thread. Here are a few of my favorite projects.
LET’S MAKE SH*T
This lettering was originally created for my personal business cards, then found it's way onto a Limited Edition enamel pin. When I decided to test the waters of embroidering my hand lettering, this was the first piece I turned to. And it certainly didn't disappoint. The texture is captivating and the irony warms my heart.
SWEET DREAM PILLOW
This piece combines casual hand lettering, delicious embroidery textures and soft cozy fabrics to create a one-of-a-kind pillow that I just can’t stop looking at. I even made a DIY kit for others to create their own.
HOLIDAY, I’M POOR & PROVE
These were all different explorations in method, stitches and concept. They each hold a snarky place in my heart and I offer a couple as DIY kits over at Haute Wanda.
The lovely gals from the Strawberry Swing Indie Craft Fair asked me to create some event materials for the upcoming Summer Swing. The inspiration they passed along to me: we love popsicles!
I had a lot of fun illustrating this hand lettered piece, along with the complementary pattern and digital graphics.
If you're in Kansas City, you should check out the Summer Swing on July 23rd.
